A21 Walk for Freedom

Members of Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach joined hundreds of thousands people around the world in the A21 Walk for Freedom on Saturday, October 19th.  What is the Walk for Freedom and why?

The Walk for Freedom is the largest organized rally against slavery in the world. It is a global response to end human trafficking and other forms of slavery that exists globally…even in Orange County.

According to A21.org, in the last 5 years, “hundreds of thousands of participants have shown up for 1400+ walks across 50+ countries all over the world taking millions of steps all in the name of freedom.”

Thanks to the organizational skills of Mary Chiappetta, SI Huntington Beach has become very active in our county to stop human trafficking.  We attend the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force meetings, assemble informational kits and support Thatiana’s Home, an emergency safe house for trafficking survivors.  In perfect alignment with our Soroptimist mission, the staff at Thatiana’s Home work to empower the women who come to them.

Pictured here at Saturday’s walk in Laguna Beach are SIHB members Sue, Marcelle, Mary and Jill who were joined by one of our adopted moms for this year, Luisa!
