Surf City Soroptimists of Huntington Beach empower women to live their dreams through the dream programs, the Day of Empowerment, the Dolly Wakeham Grant Program, the Dream Beyond Program, scholarships, our monthly virtual Happiness Hours and more.
Originally, I was going to say that January and February were my favorite months of the year…why? Because in January, our club, in collaboration with the Assistance League of Huntington Beach, hosts a Day of Empowerment – a day where, this year, 20 single moms were all treated to a day of pampering, shopping, education and sharing – just for themselves – away from their children.
And…in January, we focus our efforts along with other clubs from Orange, Los Angeles and Ventura counties, to help stamp out modern day slavery.
And then, there is February…the month we always celebrate our Live Your Dream awardees for that year. Once again, Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach awarded 14 cash grants to women who were studying everything from criminal justice, medical coding, pre-law and early childhood education to art therapy and cosmetology.
But, I reconsidered….why? Because every month (yes, all 12 of them) is my favorite month because, every month we host a virtual Happiness Hour, facilitated by one of our former Live Your Dream honorees, Waukecha.
So, for me, every month is a special month because, each month we get to enjoy the company of the women we serve as a community of Soroptimists not just from our club but from other clubs as well.
