SI President Siew Yong Gnanalingam led nearly 100 Soroptimist International delegates at New York to ensure that the voices of women and girls across the globe are heard. This year’s priority theme focuses on accelerating gender equality by addressing poverty via strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective.
Our parallel events explored key topics such as gendered poverty, climate change, finances and budgeting to showcase what Soroptimists around the world are doing to help educate, empower and enable women and girls.The outcome of the Commission on the Status of Women’s consideration of the priority theme during its 68th session (2024)took the form of agreed conclusions, negotiated by all Member States.
The Commission adopted agreed conclusions on “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective” on 22 March 2024.

On the local front, our club, Soroptimist International of the Americas – Huntington Beach, will be hosting its annual Day of Empowerment this Sunday, April 14th, in partnership with the Assistance League of Huntington Beach and supported by Jersey Mike’s. This special day for 25 women, single moms, in college, will include a continental breakfast, a shopping spree accompanied by personal shoppers in the Huntington Beach Assistance League Thrift Store, hair and make up services provided by local, professional hairdressers and cosmetology students and Dinair Airbrush Makeup, an educational workshop, lunch provided by Jersey Mike’s, sharing and a “swag bag”. Offside, licensed childcare is provided by Bev.
