When the Surf City Soroptimists of Huntington Beach heard about the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley’s “Drive-Through Gift Giving Party in support of their 42nd Annual Benefit Auction, October 3, 2020, we jumped…or should I say drove…right in.
It was a fun, creative event. For only $25 and a donation of $50 (or more), we received a wonderful charcuterie box from the Recess Room, served by the staff from the Boys & Girls Club on Delaware, a bottle of wine and our picture taken with our Chief of Police, Rob Handy (also the President of the Boys & Girls Clubs Board of Directors) and his wife, Jennifer (also a member of Soroptimist International of Huntington Beach), and we never left our cars. Along with Marcelle, Jennifer and me, Cathy Green, another member of our club, also a Board member for the Boys and Girls Clubs and her husband, Peter, and new member, Sandi Williams and her husband, Wink, were served and photographed as they drove through.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley, particularly the two located in Huntington Beach, are near and dear to our hearts as many of our Live Your Dream honorees and “Dolly Wakeham” moms send or have sent their children to them.
And speaking of fundraising…this will be a very special year for our club as well. Fundraising, in the age of Coronavirus, will look a lot different than it has in the past but, our mission remains the same…to improve the lives of women and girls through access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
