Surf City Soroptimists of Huntington Beach live the spirit of Thanksgiving everyday of every week throughout the year. Thanksgiving or giving thanks is part of our Soroptimist DNA. We are thankful that we have the means to assist women and girls so that they can live their dreams and create meaningful lives for themselves and their families. We beam with pride at their successes and are there to listen when they need someone to talk to.
Aside from giving 14 Live Your Dream Awards (cash grants to women who are head of their household and accepted into or enrolled in an undergraduate program, a vocational or trade school or a certification program), supporting 4 women and their families throughout our Soroptimist year (July 1 – June 30), participating with 2 other clubs on Dream It, Be It Programs designed for teen girls (13-18) who face obstacles to success and more, we are fierce in supporting the effort in Orange County to stamp out human trafficking in all forms.
We change lives…those we serve and our own…and we create joy!
This past weekend, Mary Chiappetta, our Stop Human Trafficking Chair, and I decorated 2 safe houses for the Salvation Army and left decorations for a 3rd who wasn’t home.
